Popping in...

Hello fireflies!
How have you all been? I am still in Wales working at the SeaWatch Foundation, I have only three weeks to go now until I return home. I miss all of my famly, friends and animals so much! I love working here but three months is a long time to be away from them. I hope that I will be able to place more posts to you all, and take photos when I get back. I don't have an SD slot on my computer! I have the cutest hat for when I am out on the boat collectng data, it is a spring green wool slouch beanie hat with a dark green bunny on the side. I love it, and it is sooo warm and snuggly. It's gorgeous weather and I wish for a twilight summer party with lanterns and such. I have been swimming in the sea and the water is so beautiful and clear; you can see the fish and crabs and everything in the water below you. I bought a charming copy of Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass the other day, it is material bound with printed flamingoes all over it. I also watched the Alice in Wonderland film by Disney the other day, I loved it so! I have finished reading 'The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner'and it is worth reading if you are a Twilight fan. I hope that all is well and you are all enjoying yourselves!

Spring Emergence

Hello to you my dears how have you all been over these past few months? My blog has been in hibernation over the cold and sparkling winter. I have been baking gingerbread, following robins, making snowballs and building toasty fires. I hope that you all had a wonderful christmas and that you are having a splendid 2010 so far? Please tell me what you got for christmas? I am ever so nosey! I think this year is going to be better, I have discovered a new prince who is beautiful, lovely funny, sweet and kind. I am so happy! I have also got the voluntary placement in Wales that I had applied for after Liverpool was no more. Please let me know what you have all been up to! xoxox

Friday

I have not been on here for a while and for that I must apologise. I have been having a bit of a rubbish time, my boyfriend and I broke up, then my interview with the survey team in Liverpool fell through. Sadness -_-. So I am feeling a little lost at the moment. I need fireflies to light the way. I have never seen a real firefly or glow worm. I would love to see one though, it must be really magical. Someone tell me some happy things, the smile keeps fading. I hope all is well with everyone

Wednesday

The Wanderer Returns

I have spent the last two weeks out on the sapphire ocean, watching the dolphins, counting them, taking pictures and working out who is who. We also came across two harbour porpoise when the sea was breath-takingly still(I spotted them too, yay!). I stayed in a tiny historical fishing village called Gardenstown, in a weathered cottage where you could hear the sea rushing up to the sea wall and see birds wading in the shallow pools that appeared at low tide. I met loads of lovely people who were fun, kind and caring. I miss it so, as well as the people I met (Even though only for a few days but became good friends). Surveys would be my ideal job. To do surveys living in Gardenstown would be my ideal life. I found out upon my return that I have been offered an interview for a job with a survey company near Liverpool for 2 or 3 months, potentially long-term. I am a bit apprehensive and excited all at once. My interview is later next week, I shall let you know how it goes. The downfall of the interview is that I have had to cancel my voluntary work in Gweek Seal Sanctuary. I suppose there is always next year.

I hope all is well with everyone and that you have all had an eventful couple of weeks,

Monday

I am listening to a recording a friend made for me. He leant out of his window in the middle of a thunderstorm and recorded it for me. Sometimes it helps me to fall asleep, the sound of the rain bouncing off the sodden earth. The rolls of thunder somehow make me feel happy and at peace. It is such an amazing thing, thunder, following shortly after the brilliant flash that illuminates the entire sky, so intensely that you can see the face of the person you are with. It draws you closer together, witnesses to a beautiful yet destructive entity.

I wonder what whales make of thunder. Surely the sound of electrons reacting together travels through the depths of the ocean? I wonder if they, like me, are drawn to the waves of noise? If the humpback whales sing back to the sky?

A 28 foot juvenile humpback whale was found dead in the Thames river today. It makes me sad. Humpbacks are found in the European Atlantic, but the poor soul was so far from home, it did not have much chance of survival. It would have probably starved and most certainly become severely dehydrated. I wonder if Naval sonar was the cause, or maybe disease? Both of which may cause the whale to become disorientated. I'm sure I will get the report sent to me at some point. This is why I strive to become a marine mammal scientist, so I can help work towards reducing these occurences, particularly if the causes are anthropogenic.

I wonder what whales and dolphins I will see on my cetacean research trip. I leave for Scotland on Sunday, I cannot wait!

Magic white rabbits

Some little rabbits hopped into my room the other day. I think they like it here, and are moving in. They have tiny outfits, and tiny pink noses. They have befriended a little baby mouse named Edward, who has travelled everywhere with me. Soon I shall magic them a house called Applewood Cottage, with a blue-green roof and a white front door. I have also bought them some furniture, a magical house for magical furry white rabbits. I would like to get them a tea set, so that they might join in with the tea parties I share with the ghosts and faeries in my room.
